Mouldy Bathroom Silicone

There's no denying that mouldy silicone makes even the most luxurious bathroom look ekky and horrid, and it can be an absolute nightmare to combat, that's why you need Bathroom Buster (check out the video above) if our product can touch the mould it will kill it.

Mould grows deep behind silicone, and silicone is designed to stop liquid getting behind it, so it won't matter what product you use to try and get rid of the mould; the mould will not be killed until the product can get in contact with the mould, and sometimes this is only possible if the silicone is removed.

When you rip the old silicone out, you’ll have to treat the area with our mould remover sprays and power mould-killing crystals before laying down new silicone. The good news is that replacing silicone isn't a huge undertaking, and if you know your way around the less pretty aisles in Bunnings , it is a pretty straightforward DIY job.

Moisture-laden and poorly ventilated bathrooms are the perfect space for various species of mould to thrive, particularly on the edges of your bathroom amenities and the silicone behind them. Our mould remover can be utilised during the process of silicone replacement as an effective mould killer. Using our mould remover between the removal and reapplication of silicone stops mould in its tracks and lowers the risk of potentially adverse impacts on the home.

  • Scraper/ Flat Chisel
  • Methylated Spirits
  • Sponge
  • Rubber Gloves (optional)

Step 1: Remove Old Silicone

Using a sharp knife, carefully cut along the side and the back of the silicone. This will allow the strip of silicone to be removed. Using a flat chisel, get into the corners of where you previously trimmed to ensure all silicone is removed. Using a scraper get in behind the amenity and the wall to further remove any large chunks hiding beneath the surface. Wipe up any residue or remnants of silicone using methylated spirits and a wet sponge

Step 2: Spray the Area With Green Goo Bathroom Buster Spray

After you remove and safely dispose of your old silicone, spray the affected areas directly with Green Goo’s Bathroom Buster Spray. For maximum effect, leave the spray to sink in for several minutes, then wipe clean using the microfibre cloth provided. Repeat this step on all affected areas.

Step 3: Utilise the Mould Power Crystals

Following spraying and wiping the affected area with our Bathroom Buster Spray, open the 300ml of Mould Power Crystals and transfer into the 150ml empty vented tub. Place the newly filled tub (or two or three) directly in the vicinity of the affected area and leave for a number of days (up to thirty) until there is a noticeable reduction in the amount of mould in your bathroom.

Step 4: Apply New Silicone

Using a rag, wipe the area and clean it of any dust or silicone debris. Following this, using the caulking gun and silicone tube, apply silicone generously along the desired edges. Spray the area with water and use a popsicle stick to smooth it over.

And that's all there is to it! Done!
